In 2008 I officially lived in Adelaide, Australia; Helsinki, Finland and Sheffield, UK and Berlin, Germany. In April 2011 I moved to Linz, but over the past month I’ve been back in Adelaide helping out my elderly father.
I’ve been keeping a blog since October 2000.
I love meeting people and hearing their stories. I’m fascinated by the edges of friendship – how do we make and break friendships? How does distance and technology influence the ways in which we interact?
I’ve started studying a DIYMasters program on friendship which I’m coordinating myself, rather than studying at a formal institution. I have nothing against formal learning, but I want to see what I can achieve as a student outside of the establishment.
When I grow up I’d like to have a garden, a baby and sing in a choir. I’m not sure when I’ll officially be grown up but I’ve already done the gardening and choir thing and would like to do them again as babies seem like an awful lot of work. So are gardens, but they don’t wake you up in the middle of the night.
I drink an awful lot of tea. In between cups of tea and bathroom breaks I’ve worked as a games programmer and as a web developer (both freelance and for e-learning service providers). I’ve also honed my interpersonal skills whilst bartending and working in my favourite shop.
I currently work for the School of Webcraft with P2PU and Mozilla Foundation. You can read about my work here.
I use an Apple Powerbook G4 as my primary computer, but I try to maintain battlecat.net using open source and free software where possible. I choose to use the WordPress CMS for small scale websites and I run The Gimp and Inkscape within X11.
I’m also looking forward to making new friends in Linz – feel free to get in touch.
You can also find traces of me on: P2PU, flickr, twitter, LinkedIn, dopplr, last.fm, School of Everything and 43Things
