Comments on is it today, tomorrow or yesterday?

playing bass in a ROCK band..like Bob Weston.. however.. there is a band looking for a bass player, and although they've 'talked' about it.. i'm not allowed to be their bass pig.. they could be playing with 69 (rock 99 - in melb), GVSB, n stuff.. IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!! boys are f u c k e d when it comes to rock'n'roll.

isn't it funny how when you type someones name into google, so much stuff comes up, easily? i won $1800 dollars to talk shit on SAFM about the music they play. my favourite album right now is probably live clikatat ikatowi. perhaps. making stickers is fun. and being emo. just talking shit. e-mail me.

Comments on mum's cooking downfall

Pip, Two days ago i made Hot Cross Buns. My mother makes wonderful hot cross buns, and i assisted her in the baking process. I have always prided myself on being particularly adroit at kneading dough. there is something almost primal about the activity, but don't ask me to expound on that. i think the key thing to remember is that you don't have to treat dough delicately. bash it about, pummel it vigorously, think of your baking session as an exercise regime; i promise you that the resulting texture will be extraordinary. unfortunately we baked the buns for slightly too long. so i'm no "peter van the bread man" yet. one day when i have my gourmet kitchen -- a room resplendent with stainless steel and granite -- perhaps then i can transform into the cooking genius i know i am, and manifest the spirit of martha stewart that resides within me. until then i think i'll just eat out a lot. i hate pavlova. it's creepy. but i wish you every success nonetheless.

I found yr site a while ago via a google search for -- I forget what, either Ed Kuepper or meat pies -- and as I (a Yank in Adelaide) skimmed a bit more was gradually not surprised to find you are in SA too -- your description of clouds sometime in may really made me wonder! but I stopped back again today and in the "drunk" entry I find "port willunga"... I like reading here. You say so well so many things that cross my mind in a busy day. Tnx for taking the time to put them online.

I was discussing why we don't have speed limited cars with a friend at work (who incidently just bought what is possibly the most powerful car in the southern hemisphere). Why not use a system that links a car GPS with a database that tells the car how fast it can go at the location it's at? It would solve all speeding problems, at least for new cars that have it and retro fitted cars (if it's technically possible).

If I hadn't been sick in bed with a sinus infection, I would have been at the gig on Saturday. Kicking myself that I didn't go, but sometimes health is more important. I think that reckøning (old habits die hard) are a beautiful memory, but maybe they should stay just that. A memory. A moment in time, perfect for what it was, but not perfect for now. As for fighting back 16yr old self - I seem to have (just) mastered the knack of having a conversation with Matt, leaving the room, going outside, hugging myself and squealing. I seem to be unable to totally suppress certain urges. And when he kissed me on the cheek... wheeeeeeeee! (PS - I've been lurking here a while, just hadn't bothered to say anything.)

While all the soups turn mortal beings into incredibly attractive souper heroes, each soup has particular powers. The zucchini soup transforms a glut vegetable into a epicurian delight. The tomato soup cures tomato haters and makes them appreciate the miraculous fruit / vegetable. And the orange vegetable soup helps people to see in the dark.

Comments on the table question

i'm thinking cream... then you could have a beautiful small dark runner (or maybe just a table mat) and assorted objects of interest. not that you couldn't have that with the green colour. green would be wonderful too, actually it might even be better. your existing table has a green formica top doesn't it? hmm, it's difficult.

Comments on the table question

Having done the whole two-tone painting job I'd have to say that it's a darn lot of work - but it does look cool as! I think two colours would als limit the table's capacity to function well in setting other than the kitchen. I like the idea of green, but then maybe that would be too much green. Hmmmmmm I like Karah's idea of pink - you can never have too much pink!

I think the leeloo look is one you could pull off with ease - but that to go for the full effect of scary scary leotard/tights thingo might be too much even for Halloween. Lola is tres chic but far less Halloweenish. If you can get your hands on some orange elastic to go with your cargos and a way-out looking firearm then I'm sure everyone will be mightily impressed! As one who intends to go sans Halloween gear, I for one, promise to make the appropriate exclamatory gestures.

you're doing it to get that elusive piece of paper that says: i'm employable! pick me! group assignments suck. unfortunately, our faculty doesn't have the peer assessment thing. what a great idea, as i'm often finishing things for the slackers in my "team." hang in there, you'll make it. even if it no longer seems worth it. i'm doing the same thing right now, one more exam and i'll have finished my software degree. after five years i wonder if it was worth it. but dammit, i'm so close i'm not going to let it get me now. you've got to believe that you will benefit from finishing. otherwise you'll go insane. hmm... not as encouraging as i'd have hoped but eh. that's what uni does to you. good luck!

oh yes... the infamous e-commerce technology group project... the lesson i learned was: never let anybody join your group unless you already know them. if they approach and say "can i work with you guys?", the answer should be "no". (unless of course it's day one of first year)

I found your site through the adelaide blogs portal. I watched that particular program too, and it was very compelling. I am afraid I will find myself invariably watching the second half tonight, even though I should be studying in my last week of uni for the year.

being free, single and living in a beautiful big house must make 6 days of the week rhad. particularly now that you have no more uni work weighing you down. All the more time for getting bit by bats (and erm.. paper tigers)! Although it can appear all your friends are 'on their way' whilst you are just standing around. Look at it as you have just had a shower to prepare yourself, and now that your clean and ready, its time to put on some comfy shoes and start on your way! And on your way out the door, stop and think about the boy in melbourne who reads your blog. He woke up nice and depressed the smorning because with finishing his degree, getting ready to move out and looking for a job, he feels all jubumbled up! But then he stops and reads an odd-girl-from- Adelaide's blog. He notices a post that is uncannily similar to his life at the moment, and decides to try and help her look at things from a different view. Same old move-script-ending... boy from melbourne gets cheered up whilst trying to cheer odd-girl-from-adelaide up. the movie rights have already been bought by Time-Warner. Both Brad Pitt & Heath Ledger and scrambambling over each other to get the part as me. Iv'e heard a rumor that Milla Jovovich has been casted for 'the odd-girl-from-adelaide'.

whoa! So many comments~! See - everyone loves you! You've been doing craazy interesting stuff for agers - someone else needed to have a go! Plus, you are always doing cool stuff - like writing great songs about hippies and Iantos n stuff. and gardening . . . and wearing cool pjs . . . and having cool as parties . . . and going out to gigs dressed to the nines . . . and getting a degree and being crafty (in a not-being-mean-to-others, but making-nice-things-way) and cooking great food often from stuff you have grown yourself . . . . . ooo - Ianto and I have planted heaps of vegies and herbs - and a watermelon!! The squash have come up already from seed! Plus, I too have been feeling like all of my friends are growing up and moving out and up on me (it's nice to her I'm not the only one who feels like that), but now I'm joining the trend and I'm going to run away - but not before we all have a big rocking summer! It the weather can make up it's mind and be good, or at least, consistent!

Pips! What a popular entry! All that the others said and more . . . This was just so . . . that weird kind of hollow feeling that you get from something that is poignant, saddening, uplifting, melancholic, nostalgic, recognised and unfathomable . . . it was like that to read. Isn't it sad and special and perfect that we must all get older . . . and that we change and can appreciate others . . and that at times we can't . . . Times with my Nanna have been really special for me since I was kid, I love what I've learned - It's great that you have had the same chances too - every Tuesday - hmmm - I think, Mt Gambier's a bit far for that!

Our seeds are progressing kind of slowly - except for the squashes - which are rather big now - but a bug keeps eating our watermelons . . . Home Brew! Find a friend who isn't using their kit and make some beer! A friend of mine told me for $13 he could make a carton. subtly convince others to buy you the things you want, but make them think that it was really their idea. then thank them A LOT and they will feel all warm and fuzzy because they think they're so generous and thus will continue to buy you things. but don't try this on me, i have no money. try chris.

Eek! Another James! One that speaks about International Women's Day instead of bad White Stripes covers! One that updates his blog several times a day! A formidable foe... Pippa, please come up with a different name for me, something that I believe is known (in the school of computer database construction) as a unique identifier.

The Nu Skoola is good, but have you thought about just adding a letter or two extra to the basic James? A boy I know in Sydney added an extra "s" to become Jamess. I do not kid about this. He was hot (hott?) already, but the added letter made him seem even more desirable. I'll come up with some ideas. Possibly there may be a mathematical symbol or two. eg Kitten Too Squared = kiX 2²

I remembered another yummy cocktail I had when I was on Lord Howe Island. It's called a Frangipani. I'm not sure of the exact recipe but last night I put lots of ice in a glass, poured some frangelico on top and then squeezed most of the juice from a lime into it and added a slice of lime as a garnish. It was delish! In my search for a recipe I found a menu from a cocktail bar in Sydney that does a different variation that includes Vodka. I might try that next time! Keep Smiling :) Trishy

Comments on Swallows and Amazons For Ever!

My dad read my brother and I Peter Duck when we were young, and when it was finished we eagerly requested that the others be read to us, too. We have a man-made dam on our property, dug into the earth. My parents had it made when we moved here, years ago. They put an island of earth bang in the middle. Some years later, some family friends donated to us their battered old fibre-glass boat. My brother and I would rise at 5:30, pack a breakfast, and go rowing on the dam. Sometimes we'd camp on the island, too. It's a nice memory.

can I just say phfft! to the ABC and their stupid-arse list ?! what kind of a list is that ? Marsden just keeps writng for the money - he obviously has some difficulty with the English language, which thus makes it surprising that he sells so well - TRILOGY means three, John - not 8 or 9! Harp in The South is a load of sentimentalist, unrealistic period rubbish, from recollection. Does The Power Of One even count as Australian really ? Ethel Turner ? Dudes, what century is this ? She didn't live anywhere near the bush herself, much less go there et al. I've still not read I Can Jump Puddles, but Noorat is a nice little town and the view from the topon Mt Noorat is especially impressive - I can't quite imagine rolling down the inside and then crawling up again predominantly with the sole use of ones arms. Don't pay all that much attn to me if I annoy - I've just had my wisdom teeth out and am feeling grumpy cos the drugs have worn often and i'm not longer under the euphoric spell. Hey Pips! I used to love keeping things in shoeboxes, so I'd always make sure I had first dibs on the box when someone walked in the door with a new pair. In the end, though, I had more boxes than I had things to put them in. We had to make a cull. I've still got boxes full of childhood stuff, though. I used to take some of them with me on our beach holidays when I was a kid. We played a lot of Tetris on said beach holidays. As such, your Tetris reference was extra special! Oh, and I used to think about sleeping in the bathtub, too. My dream was only realised, though, when I came home drunk one night and decided the empty tub was the perfect place to sleep.

Comments on the $400 haircut

ohh how i understand the joys and pains of becoming addicted to one hairdresser - jindrich and i have been in a serious relationship now for four years. i have followed him all over adelaide and wouldn't you know it, we've ended up back at the original salon where he very first cut my hair (SAKS on King William Rd). my bf dan tells me that i don't pay $50 for a haircut, i pay $50 to gossip with my hairdresser and catch up on all his latest dramas. whatever i'm paying for - i end up with a damn fine cut too. he does a great short hair cut on females. he's tossed up the idea before of moving to melbourne and i've had to admit that flying to melbourne for a haircut could become a possibility. ohh the joys.

sally has decided that 13+ years at limbo meant it was time for a change..she's now studying art at ait.. i meant to tell you the last time i got my hair cut! but she was referring everyone to kristy,..sally says kristy cuts hair like she does..

The reason the Trifecta is so easy on Secret Life is that they have to cram it into forty minutes (allowing for ad-breaks). As you say, turns out life's not like that. Life's kinda funny about people who try to work it out, you know... p.s. I'm glad that you think of us as Scripters not Real Programmers, Pippa :p

Everybody's life is quite tedious in detail. But we like to be nosy and read into the lives of others, even into those tedious moments. What I find tedious about my own life isn't always what other's feel. From straight-up rote descriptions of dailyish tasks to whimsical musings, or blunted blogs pounded out letter by letter by sheer exhausted wilpower, writing often records the nuance and mood, not just a footnote in the annals of history of some event or item. Good writing is fun both to write and to read; it's a way of neatening up what might otherwise be a rant. I've taken to writing with pen and paper after a long era of typing everything. It's such a slow and laborious task but the spinoff is that you have to think about what you're doing a lot more.

25% hecs increase, a two-tiered health system, REFUGEES, the war on iraq, the continual deconstruction of any form of public utility, the free trade agreement with america...not to say the labor party represent an alternative in the sense that the left has any kind of popular representation in Australia, left parties shouldn't support war, but apart from embracing complete apathy/cynicism about our political system I'd say vote labor or vote greens so your preferences should go to labor. Enough complete fascism in Australia. Vote for the fascists who at least pretend they're not fascists!!

vote green and be sure to put Labor second on preferences and Liberal last. What that means is that the Greens won't win, so Labor get your vote, and they will know that you voted green which is another digit in their 'how many voters want us to do something about Green issues' coloum. I have trouble with the word colom..coloum..cloumn..colon...columm..??????

Hey preaching to the converted here, its all the ignorant voters out there I'm afraid of. Sometimes I think compulsory voting is a hinderance to a fair democracy. You just know some people are going to go with the "better the devil you know" attitude, or think the economy is more important than the evironment. Give them a few tax cuts and they will bleat to the governments call. They will even forgive the man for ignoring the majority of the population in joining the "fight against terror". Some democracy when its made up of a majority of idiots who only think of themselves. But I guess thats human nature in this day and age.

but if you look at the USA, where voting isn't mandatory, there are exactly the same problems. so the argument for voluntary voting is quite minor.

Thats because the voting is controlled by lobby groups such as the gun lobby and religious groups, whereas in Australia we don't have such strong sub groups. Much of the republican vote was from the support of such groups using their influence and grass roots campaigning.

Well Im afraid the ignorant are once more the majority in a country with compulsory voting. Labors campaign was weak and pathetic, the Liberals were full of half truths yet again, and mr and mrs average were once again led down the garden path. Goodbye Telstra, hello increased telephony bills, goodbye sensible environmental policy, hello increased mandate for war on 'Terror'. What does this tell mr Howard, oh we forgive you for invading a soverign nation, we forgive you for lying at the last election about children overboard, oh we forgive you for incarcerating people for years at a time a la Guantanamo Bay for wanted to emigrate without at the very least processing the applications quickly. Oh and we also forgive increases in Hecs, the debacle over Private Health government grants, underfunded public schooling and selling our souls to the US. As long as our pockets are more full with you mr Howard we, the selfish majority are happy. The question is how did Labor LOSE this election. My theory, they didnt really mention much at all about the issues above and instead concentrated on the issues that dont really count. The decline of the Democrats is sad too, sure the Greens are up, but we need both parties to balance the senate, and the saddest thing of all is the thought that the Coalition and the radical Christians will control the senate. That is the real tragedy of this election.

Comments on Operation Clark County

Pippa, I respect the intention behind your letter, but may I respectfully suggest that perhaps your opinion is just that, an opinion, and that there may be two reasonable views regarding the situation. You write: "Over the past three years I’ve watched as the international community has been divided, international laws ignored, seen lies told by your leader and intentional acts of violence enacted out on many innocent people." Ah, yes. This international law is a wonderful thing when it works, and a tragedy when it does not. There are many Americans who are still castigating themselves over the tragedy in Rwanda. The problem with the UN is that no one has a mandate to protect the weak and innocent, so it is very possible for millions to die while the international commuunity sits around feeling superior and self-congratulatory. In the aftermath of the Iraqi war many records were recovered, and it has become clear that the Oil For Food program had been subverted, that there was substantial corruption in the UN's administration of this program, and that Saddam Hussein was carrying out a systematic program of bribery in order to divert funds from medicine and food to his weapons program. Read the Duelfer report, which both criticizes the conclusions of the US intelligence agencies and lists a devastating series of facts regarding Saddam Hussein's actions. You write: "The gap between rich and poor has increased under Bush, unemployment has risen, the environment has been ignored, and defence has been promoted as an issue far more important than health and education." Here I must respectfully point out that you may have the wrong information. The gap between the rich and poor increased most under Clinton's presidency. During Bush's term the unemployment rose (and now has fallen), but manufacturing employment started to fall drastically in 1999, a year and a half before Bush took office. By 2000 (six months before Bush took office), manufacturing employment had fallen to about a 19 year low. Bush inherited a collapsing stock market and these conditions, and then the attack of 9/11 inflicted a massive shock to our country's economy. Unemployment is currently at 5.4%, which is historically low for the US and is far better than many other nations. The environment has not been ignored either - far from it. In the first year of Bush's term, Bush obtained passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, an education initiative which was designed to reduce inequality of results in public education and give additional rights to parents whose children were attending failing public school systems. My mother was a teacher in the public school system for 27 years, and she supported this law and its intent. One of Bush's campaign planks was the pressing need to improve education in the poorest school systems. A great deal of money has been spent for this initiative. Regarding health, I can only say that our healthcare system is very complex. We have 50 states which vary widely in population density and economy, and may have different health care needs. All of our states have access to Medicaid, which is a health insurance program for low income people, and many states have extended eligibility or created different programs of our own. For instance, in my home state of Georgia with a population of about 13 million, maternal health care for families with incomes under about $40,000 is automatically covered. NY state has a very extensive system of its own. The debate in the US is about how to extend access to one of the finest health care systems in the world without destroying flexibility and initiative in the system. I'm sure you don't know this, but one of Bush's campaign promises was to pass legislation covering prescription drugs for the elderly, and he succeeded. The program will be fully in effect next year, and although it will be very expensive, most felt that attention to our senior citizens' needs made this coverage a priority. You write: "And every other nation watches America and follows in your nation’s footsteps." One of the hallmarks of the American system is that we have encouraged great flexibility at the state and local level. Realistically, our 50 states and the District of Columbia, with an aggregate population of over 295,000,000, have widely varying conditions which almost requires some flexibility in designing programs to meet our social needs. We are a very ethnically diverse nation, and it is conservatively estimated that about 18% of our population is foreign born. Due to immigration alone, conditions in our states vary widely. I believe you overestimate our international importance, but I would think that many nations, such as China, have begun to see the wisdom of allowing initiatives at local levels and instituting pro-growth policies. This is what I would hope the rest of the world would emulate about the US. Finally, I must point out something of which you are probably not aware. In responding to an 8-year history of multiple terrorist attacks within and without our country, the US and the Bush administration has fought desperately to ensure that the wellp-grounded fear our population experienced did not turn into attacks upon the Islamic minorities among us. This was a tall order, because our administration and all analysts have told us that they can't ensure our safety from further attacks in the mainland of the US. Nonetheless it has been a very successful program, and this alone is one of the reasons for which I will vote for Bush. Thank you for caring about the future of US and the world. You in Australia have our best wishes as well. In closing, may I respectfully suggest that you turn your attention to the "intentional acts of violence" currently being inflicted upon the Christian minority in the Sudan? They need your help and your advocacy more than we do. Or perhaps you could advocate for those dying of poverty or AIDS in Africa. Perhaps you do not know, but the Bush administration increasing funding for AIDS in Africa so that the US is now the largest single donor. And finally, let me note that in 1998 and 1999 France was maintaining in the UN that over 50,000 children a year were dying in Iraq as a result of the international sanctions. Regrettably this turned out to be untrue, but it was a reasonable conclusion that we had to end the stalemate somehow. Faced with the choice between removing a dictator who used poison gas to kill masses of civilians belonging to an ethnic minority in his own country and who appeared to be starving children to death, or departing from the scene entirely, some of us in the US feel that we should have overthrown Saddam Hussein even if the 9/11 attacks had not occurred. Best wishes for your future, which I believe will be brighter than you know. You are an excellent writer and I'm sure you can be successful if you pursue it. MaxedOutMama

Comments on Operation Clark County

Thankyou so much for your great comment MaxedOutMama. The Operation Clark County project was obviously going to cause some problems, so I'm glad that I've had such a balanced response. I wrote the letter very quickly by hand, therefore I didn't have my computer nearby to factcheck, and I was worried that when I wrote my letter I'd get certain facts wrong. Thankfully you've been kind enough to write and clear certain issues up. While writing the letter I was very aware that my intended reader may have already made their own decision and that they may have very strong beliefs which are informing their own decision. Because of this I deliberately avoided mentioning divisive issues such as abortion rights and gay marriage - even though I think continued dialogue about the rights of individuals are very important. Ultimately, even though I'd prefer Kerry to be successful in this election, I wanted my letter to remind my allocated Clark County voter that voting carries great responsibility and that the international community is going to be affected by decisions made in the United States under either presidential candidate. Hopefully I've done that. I'm so glad that you've taken the time to not only think about your vote, but to respond to my opinions with your own and to write about such issues on your own blog.

pippa, i too have had the honour of explaining the benefits of documented code, not to mention actual system documentation. i'm currently upgrading code from the dark ages (arrrrggg... perl) and replacing it with nice, neat, commented java. reverse engineering and documenting perl code has to rate as one of the most tedious tasks on the planet. and seriously people, i don't care what you say, code is never "its own documentation". and why is it the people who think so are the ones who prefer variable names like "td", "s" and "pty"!!! no wonder spaghetti code is so prevalent.

ah yes. it is a good book but as i said it requires concentration and therefore i'm reading it very slowly. and i will finish it. <cranky> unlike of course on the road which some people say is a good book (often placed in the same backpacker friendly genre of "journey of self discovery") but which i maintain is one of the most tedious, boring, misogynistic wastes of paper ever published. 4 weeks holiday? yeah, if i didn't have to work, was on a budget and in the middle of nowhere. remember - on my two weeks holiday in vietnam i bought so much stuff that i had to buy an extra bag. i think that there's a big difference between "holiday" and "travel" in my mind. 6 months travel - just me and a backpack - that changed perspective, but a holiday? no. if i was on holiday i'd still be spending most of my free time by myself (therefore being lonely) and i'd be shopping - because in 4 weeks i'd go home and i wouldn't have to carry stuff around anymore. and maybe it would be different if it was not a holiday or travel - just 4 weeks time off to do whatever i want. </cranky>

oi! no dissing jack. he was a brilliant amphetamine freak, and he was a big fan of loneliness [sp?] i agree, travelling backpacker stylee is definitely not a holiday, more an experience. and maybe a minimum of 3 days rest would be requisite on returning home. we did takayama [1 night], hiroshima [1 night], and tonight will be the [4th night] in kyoto. due to the fact that hangin with ones parents is ridiculously trying i have got away from them and as such am feeling much more rested. i must get my blog up and running again, i suddenly feel the urge to write write write.....

Moi aussi! I've bought a couple of French audiobooks from audible, been listening to french internet radio and have been reading tasty french food blogs. I'm sure I'm still gonna not understand a thing while we're in Paris. IF you want someone to talk French at that'd be cool. Mish

Knowing even a little bit of French is great! While I was in France, on two occasions I was taken pity on by a waiter or waitress for mangling their language, and scored free drinks! I guess they do really appreciate the effort :)

i've been learning french for just over a year now and i absolutely love it! in high school i did three years of french and i hated it with a passion. but the best thing about learning as an adult is that you aren't forced to do countless verb conjugations that teach you nothing. in a year of french i've learnt heaps more than i ever did in three years at school. i totally recommend the Alliance Française if you want to get formal lessons. the classes are not only really good, but all they do is teach french so they have the french film festival, free libraries of french materials etc. in adelaide: http://www.af.org.au/

Remarkable site, mostly because of the eloquent writing. You put a lot into this and I guess my overall impression of reading your posts is that people don't usually go as far as you do to express themselves this well and to, in general, provide a worthwhile experience for visitors. I honestly can't remember how I got to your site -- but I am glad that I did.

Your reaction to the unexpected exhibition at the Bauhaus museum is, I imagine, similar to my reaction to finding out about the Matisse/Picasso exhibition that was showing at the Tate Modern when I was in London in 2002 (Matisse being my favourite artist).

heartening? well, i found the cat in the dollhouse very heartening today, slagging of jackie o AND a bec cartwright poem, so much fun to be had! and pipstar, your entry today was very heartening and reminding me of good stuff to notice. i've been so sick and down for the last few weeks, it will be good for spring to come. this weekend has been excellent, we got my grandpa's huge record player and have been playing many great records (incluing a harry nilsson greatest hits that d got me from opp shopping!), we went to a party dressed as nannas (yeah!) and saw two nanna's kiss (whoooo). it's very humbling to be invited to a beautiful 21st bday. and yesterday i baked cookies (betty crocker, but yum as!). the bestest heartening bit tho? i bought a beautiful teal jacket on opp shop travels on saturday that was missing one button that would have been hard to replace. wearing the jacket yesterday, i felt in the pocket and was greeted by - the missing button! it's been sewed on to great success. yay for double breasted. xo geish

Hey Miss P, Well I think the name Miaowhummad Ali is just smashing :D Mike is intent on calling our future puppy Saba(Brianna will be her Mum), and if we get goldfish they shall be nameth Circe and Calypso, after the Homeric wtiches of the sea. That one was my idea :) ... I have a thing for unusual names. Ask Mike what we would name a baby boy should those crazy genes of us produce one! It's a cool name. I get really uptight when I hear that folks in cars don't respect cyclists - I used to ride all the time and it's dangerous out there! I think they forget we don't have large sheets of metal around us. C xo

Comments on a shot in the arm

Ah Pipstar. When I first read this I said 'yeah! whoo! you go girl!' and talked to lots of people about how strong and positive this post was. And I still think it is. But some of the people I talked to said they thought it was being a bit hard on yourself, and I've been thinking about it alot. If there was ever anyone I would try to imitate in my life, it would be you. You are one the only friends I have that is now working and has a cool and viable career in the area that you got your degree in. As far as I can see, you DO ride fast (too fast for me to keep up this saturday I bet), make beautiful things (I have your painting on my wall still), write (you've inspired so many blogs!) and sing out loud, in the street and in shops, making shop assistants laugh and me blush. Pipstar, you are a beautiful shiny light that has an amazing wealth of knowledge on how to live and what tools to live with (computers, fine soaps, honey, good clothes and hair, inspiring magazines, amazing music...), and you have achieved so much., I don't see how you can possibly fail or be mediocre at anything. Why do you think I'm always jumping up and down saying 'Pip, hey Pip, look at me, look at what I did! Validate my clothes/hair/blog/performance/food idea/whatever!' Because you know stuff, and you are living in a way that makes other people want to change and gives them a glimpse of how their lives could be... maybe you're living properly already! And I think with that particular person by yourside, you'll be living properly at the highest of high levels.. xo geish

Hey miss P, I'd seriousy recommend you look into WordPress. I started using it because it was free, but I'm now sold on it. It's sooooo much less messy than MT. You can use tags, catagories, and have static content pages managed within it. In comparison MT does my head in. Stephen just moved a mountain of stuff over from MT and he said the conversion was really easy. Whatever you choose to do I'm sure it will look great! M
